Aoei’s Progress #6 – Model Complete

I’ve finished modeling my character and I found out that the hair is very difficult to model because there are so many curves and the shape is very organic. It took me a while to get it right…

I started out with the curly fringe and at first I wasn’t sure how to begin but I eventually got it to work (kind of)

The details was fun to model but it was also quite hard because I had to add more edge loops to get the shape right and the more edge loops i add, the more confusing it gets for me.

After I finished the rough shape of the fringe I started to model the rest of the hair on her head. This was a bit of a hassle as well because every time I extrude I have to keep the shape so that it follows the head… and yes, more edgeloops.

The next part I worked on was the side pony tail. This wasn’t as hard as the other two parts of the hair but I had to keep checking if the pony tail is going in the right direction. Sometimes I forget to look at the side view and only look at the perspective view… and the pony tail looks like its being blown by the wind.

This is the finished rough shape of the hair … the next part will be adding details onto the hair so that it doesn’t look too stiff

I insert more edgeloops to the pony tail and used the crease tool to make the edges sharper … this tool is very useful because it reduces the usage of edgeloops when we need a sharp edge.

More edgeloops and crease tool to make it look more natural and dynamic

This is what Amy looks like after the hair is done (doesn’t have eyes yet)

I also made copies of the parts in case something went wrong….

The last part is the eyes…

Eye on the left = No lens

Eye on the right = With Lens

The eye socket doesn’t follow the shape of the eyeballs  so I had to adjust the shape of the eye a bit after I put the eyeballs into the socket otherwise there will be too much unnecessary space left…

(Left = adjusted eye sockets … Right = not adjusted)

So.. now my model is completed, the next part will be cutting UVs and texturing.

With what I’ve got done until now I think I will have to change my goals, I might not be able to rig the character but I will definitely finish the texture and do a 360 turn around. The time spent modeling was much longer than I thought it would be and I have to say that my time management is very bad with all of the other work I have to do as well, I didn’t balance the workload well enough.
